Apply for FEMA Individual Assistance (IA)

Households in Milwaukee, Waukesha, and Washington Counties may be eligible. 

Apply for FEMA Individual Assistance

  • Available to homeowners and renters.
  • Assistance may include help to provide temporary housing, repairs, or replacement of essential belongings.
  • For any questions about FEMA Individual Assistance and how to apply, call the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-621-3362.
  • The deadline to apply is November 12, 2025

Disaster Recovery Centers 

Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) are open throughout Milwaukee, Waukesha, and Washington counties to assist residents with uninsured losses or emergency needs from the August storms and flooding.

A DRC is an accessible, in-person location where residents can:

  • Apply for FEMA Individual Assistance
  • Ask questions about their application
  • Submit documents or get case support

Residents may visit either location; no appointment is required. Those who already applied online do not need to visit a DRC but may choose to for additional support.

Apply for Low Interest Disaster Loans 

On September 16, 2025, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) announced the availability of low interest federal disaster loans for Wisconsin businesses, private nonprofits, and residents affected by the severe storms and flooding that occurred August 9-12, 2025 in Wisconsin. 

  • Businesses and nonprofits are eligible to apply for business physical disaster loans and may borrow up to $2 million to repair or replace disaster-damaged or destroyed real estate, machinery and equipment, inventory, and other business assets.
  • Homeowners and renters are eligible to apply for home and personal property loans and may borrow up to $100,000 to replace or repair personal property, such as clothing, furniture, cars, and appliances. Homeowners may apply for up to $500,000 to replace or repair their primary residence.


What Types of Disaster Loans are Available?

  • Business Physical Disaster Loans – Loans to businesses to repair or replace disaster-damaged property owned by the business, including real estate, inventories, supplies, machinery and equipment. Businesses of any size are eligible. Private, non-profit organizations such as charities, churches, private universities, etc., are also eligible.
  • Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) – Working capital loans to help small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses engaged in aquaculture, and most private, non-profit organizations of all sizes meet their ordinary and necessary financial obligations that cannot be met as a direct result of the disaster. These loans are intended to assist through the disaster recovery period.
  • Home Disaster Loans – Loans to homeowners or renters to repair or replace disaster-damaged real estate and personal property, including automobiles.

Where is SBA Disaster Assistance Available?

According to the SBA's September 16 Press Release, the declaration covers primary Wisconsin counties of Milwaukee, Washington and Waukesha; which are eligible for both Physical damage loans and Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs) from the SBA. Small businesses and most private nonprofit (PNP) organizations in the following adjacent counties are eligible to apply only for SBA EIDLs: Dodge, Fond Du Lac, Jefferson, Ozaukee, Racine, Sheboygan and Walworth.


SBA Application Deadlines:

Physical damage loan applications: November 10, 2025 
Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) applications: June 11, 2026

    SBA customer service representatives are on hand at Business Recovery Center (BRCs) to answer questions about SBA’s disaster loan program, explain the application process and help individuals complete their application. Walk-ins are accepted, but you can schedule an in-person appointment in advance at appointment.sba.gov
